Dear Friends,
Have you ever watched a small child wander through fields of grass and wildflowers?
Wandering is defined as walking casually or aimlessly. Small children wander, sometimes to the point of panicking their elders, but it is rarely, if ever, aimless.
There is a difference between ‘wondering,’ as in questioning what one is going to eat for lunch, and being filled with ‘wonder’ as in awe, when one is swept into a mystery beyond our comprehension. Children are full of wonder.
I am the proud grammy of eight grandchildren of various ages and stages. They are intrigued by everything from rain puddles to grasshoppers to toads. Simple aspects of creation that you and I no longer even see cause them to stop and ponder the mystery in front of them.
And so, two songs have been on replay in my mind as I prayed through this reflection.
May we never lose our wonder
Wide eyed and mystified
May we be just like a child
Staring at the beauty of our King
To allow oneself to wonder demands enough quiet space in our mind to ponder what mystery is the King of the Universe inviting us to encounter him through? God is speaking to us every day in many ways, but often we are too busy and too plugged in to notice him.
There is no better time to wander than the fall, when the foliage bursts forth in incredible colors and we stand in awe at the beauty of the Creator. Hence, the lyrics of song number two.
God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy
May we all stand wide eyed and mystified pondering the beauty of our King.
Yours in the Heart of Jesus,
Donna
