OUR HISTORY

1990
First Steps

Regnum Christi took its first steps in the United Kingdom in 1990, when a few Legionaries from the community in Rome were invited for a visit by some families. The purpose of these first visits was to introduce the spirituality and mission of Regnum Christi.

1993
An Invitation

A Legionary priest and a religious were invited to help support the ongoing ministry of the parish of St James at Spanish Place, London, and lay Regnum Christi members in the area.

1997-2013
Formation and Ministry

Legionary priests from the Dublin community made periodic visits to London, offering lay Regnum Christi members retreats, marriage renewals, spiritual and pastoral formation, and spiritual direction.

With this training in hand, they became more involved on the ground in ministries within their local parishes and communities. In the late 1990s, Regnum Christi members launched a temporary ministry to network with young professionals by offering a spirit of community, conferences on current themes, etc.  In the early 2000s, they started K4J (Kids for Jesus) in many parishes with a network of families interested in forming virtue in their children.

They also started the Pilgrim Queen of the Family apostolate in the United Kingdom, helping families to draw closer to Jesus through Mary as they pray the Rosary together.

2014-2022
Legionary visits

Legionaries continued to visit from the communities of Krakow, Poland and Rome assisting in the formation and continuity of the Regnum Christi lay members present in London.

A lay Regnum Christi member and a legionary joined together to found Efetá, an apostolate that offered retreats and formation for the many Spanish-speaking youth studying and working in the London area.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, formation and spiritual direction were continued virtually as it was not possible for legionaries to visit London.

2023-2024
London locality

Regnum Christi London was officially approved as a locality with Fr Aaron Smith as its first local director.

Fr. Matthew Bender, LC, recently succeeded him as the new local director ([email protected]) and is assisted by Fr. Anton Vogelsang, LC.

Atlanta

Alex Kucera has lived in Atlanta, GA, for the last 46 years. He is one of 9 children, married to his wife Karmen, and has 3 girls, one grandson, and a granddaughter on the way. Alex joined Regnum Christi in 2007. Out of the gate, he joined the Helping Hands Medical Missions apostolate and is still participating today with the Ghana Friendship Mission.

In 2009, Alex was asked to be the Atlanta RC Renewal Coordinator for the Atlanta Locality to help the RC members with the RC renewal process. Alex became a Group Leader in 2012 for four of the Atlanta Men’s Section Teams and continues today. Running in parallel, in 2013, Alex became a Team Leader and shepherded a large team of good men.

Alex was honored to be the Atlanta Mission Coordinator between 2010 to 2022 (12 years), coordinating 5-8 Holy Week Mission teams across Georgia. He also created and coordinated missions at a parish in Athens, GA, for 9 years. Alex continues to coordinate Holy Week Missions, Advent Missions, and Monthly missions at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming, GA.

From 2016 to 2022, Alex also served as the Men’s Section Assistant in Atlanta. He loved working with the Men’s Section Director, the Legionaries, Consecrated, and Women’s Section leadership teams.

Alex is exceptionally grateful to the Legionaries, Consecrated, and many RC members who he’s journeyed shoulder to shoulder, growing his relationship with Christ and others along the way. He knows that there is only one way, that’s Christ’s Way, with others!
