A Letter from the General Directive College of Regnum Christi
May 31, 2024
To all members of Regnum Christi
Dear friends in Christ,
We send you our warm greetings, asking the Blessed Virgin Mary for her intercession on this last day of the month dedicated to her.
On May 31, 2019, the Church, through the Dicastery for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, ratified the existence of Regnum Christi as a spiritual family, united by a charism and a shared mission that unfolds through the different vocations that comprise it: the Legionaries of Christ, the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, the Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi, and lay members.
In our first five years with this configuration, we have experienced profound learning and growth in our ways of relating to each other, and in how we collaborate with each other in complementarity, all in response to the call of Christ to establish his Kingdom in the hearts of all people and in society.
As we well know, this path has not been easy and we have faced challenges that we are overcoming with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, the accompaniment of the Church, and the apostolic zeal demonstrated by the members of Regnum Christi throughout this time.
However, this path is far from ending. Just as those who meet Christ continue on a path of constant conversion, Regnum Christi continues to be renewed, adapting to the nuances that the Spirit reveals to us according to the plan God has for his children.
A clear example of this was our First Ordinary General Convention which began with a phase of preparation in the localities and territorial conventions. It generated invaluable fruits of synodality and apostolic discernment as a community.
Now, we find ourselves facing a new stage of the journey that challenges us to respond to the needs of the world through the charism that God has given us. “This is the time of God’s grace for us, our kairós; it is time for the spiritual joy of the here and now, the moment to express redeeming love to all. We can regard the past without nostalgia or fear as it is the memory of God with us. We can look to the future with theological hope and without fantasies of earthly greatness.
We recognize the primacy of supernatural means to guide our evangelical discernment and orient our apostolic mission. We walk forth with the strength of baptism, which assures us of the grace necessary for the long, slow battle for holiness.
Our charism offers us firm support in the five elements of the Regnum Christi member’s life (RL 2), in our style of self-giving, and in our principles of apostolic action (SRCF 10, 35-39), which we should apply creatively. Our mission should include and accompany the entire path of the lives of Regnum Christi members and the people with whom we come into contact, bringing them to encounter Christ.” (2024 General Convention Communiqué 16-18)
We want to invite you to delve into and meditate on the Convention’s communiqué, and share your reflections and thoughts with others. The communiqué expresses the viewpoint of the apostle of today that we want to have, from the world in which we live and to which we are sent, seeing the temptations we face and the missionary choices we have made in confronting them.
We encourage you to reflect on it and encourage others to as well, in your territories, communities, localities, sections, and apostolates; and, above all, to incorporate it into our daily lives as members of Regnum Christi.
On this 5th anniversary of our canonical approval, and as we approach the celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we ask for a heart more his, and that the fruits of the Convention inspire and guide our apostolic projection, allowing us, as the Communiqué says, “to read the world from the heart of Christ” to “seek and discover the seeds of the Kingdom” where ever we find them.
Happy 5th anniversary!
Assuring you of our prayers,
The General Directive College of Regnum Christi
