“Giving my Five Loaves and Two Fish” – David Zárate, New Lay Member of the Regnum Christi General Directive College

David is from Monterrey, Mexico. He joined ECYD in 1995, and joined Regnum Christi in 2001. He was a missionary with RC Mission Corps from 2005-2006 in southern Italy. He has had the opportunity to participate in the entire process of renewal of Regnum Christi since 2014, in the local, territorial and general phases. David is currently a group leader in the men’s section in Monterrey, and since September 2019 he has been a lay member of the General Plenary Council of Regnum Christi. He is married and runs a business.

David, what does it mean to you to be able to be involved with the General Government of Regnum Christi in such a direct way ?

It is a great responsibility that I take on with great humility and trust in God, to serve the RC family by contributing my five loaves and two fish.

On the other handit is a tangible and palpable expression of the co-responsibility of the lay members of Regnum Christi in the responsibility for our charism. It is also a fruit of the path of renewal that we have traveled as a family, which I have had the opportunity to been part of  for almost 10 years. It’s a reflection of the synodality that is experienced in the Church itself today.

How do you view this historical moment for Regnum Christi, where the lay members have a more active participation in Government?

This historical moment that all lay members are living in is a call from the Holy Spirit to personal conversionIn the Church we often hear that this is the time of the laity, and we have to bring this to life in the worldin our realitiesThis is where we are called to be saints and to be the leaven of the Kingdom.

For me, the most important thing is where this lay participation comes fromour charism. This is where we come together in communion for the mission, and where we are all co-responsible.

Furthermore, we must continue to discern what God wants from our collaboration in Regnum Christiwithin our evangelizing mission, directing our efforts where God asks us toreading the signs of the times.

Finally, as lay members of Regnum Christiwe have to move forward, better understand how we in our lay vocation can accompany and support the strengthening of other vocationsalways through the work of God, through the Holy Spirit, and the Church that guides us and helps us! And asks to go out to evangelize!

Alex was honored to be the Atlanta Mission Coordinator between 2010 to 2022 (12 years), coordinating 5-8 Holy Week Mission teams across Georgia. He also created and coordinated missions at a parish in Athens, GA, for 9 years. Alex continues to coordinate Holy Week Missions, Advent Missions, and Monthly missions at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming, GA.

From 2016 to 2022, Alex also served as the Men’s Section Assistant in Atlanta. He loved working with the Men’s Section Director, the Legionaries, Consecrated, and Women’s Section leadership teams.
