Letter Concerning the Death of Heidi Seubert

Dear lay members of Regnum Christi and friends,

It is with deep sadness that I communicate to you the sudden and unexpected death of our dear sister Heidi Seubert. We remember Heidi as a woman of great faith and love for the Lord who beautifully shared this with so many people. Trusting in the mercy of God, we ask Him to comfort her family, her community, and all of us as we mourn her passing.

Over the years Heidi suffered from bouts of depression, for which she received treatment and support. Recently, Heidi recognized a sudden relapse of severe depression. I supported her decision to go to Virginia to receive treatment. On the morning of December 5, when she did not arrive to Mass, Heidi was found in her room having already passed away. Though the exact time of Heidi’s death is unknown, the medical and civil authorities have confirmed that she took her own life. The general director of the Consecrated Women, Nancy Nohrden, just arrived from Rome and is with me in Virginia to make arrangements and support the Consecrated Women and Heidi’s family at this time.

We accompany Heidi´s family with our prayers, as they grieve the loss of their beloved daughter, sister, and aunt. May the Lord console them in their sorrow at this difficult time. The funeral arrangements are yet to be determined, and we will pass that information along once we have it.

Heidi was born on November 1, 1969, in Cottonwood, Idaho. She was consecrated on September 15, 1993, in Rhode Island. Over the course of her 28 years of consecrated life, she spent the first years in pastoral ministry in different parts of the country. Then, she served as principal at Immaculate Conception Academy in Wakefield, Rhode Island, and later as formation director at both Everest Academy in Detroit and Everest Academy Lemont near Chicago. Most recently, Heidi was director of the community of Consecrated Women in Cincinnati and young adult section director.

May Our Lady of Sorrows, who stood by the cross of Jesus, be with us in our grief. I invite you to join in prayer: “Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her”.

I invite you to express your condolences, share some memories of Heidi or write a message to her family in the memorial book. Her full biography can be found here.

With my prayers,

Kathleen Murphy
