Harmony: A Regnum Christi Essay on Harmony in the Charism

A beautiful object is whole and complete; it possesses a certain splendor or radiance that makes it attractive to us; and there is order through which the ingredients receive proportion and relationship toward each other. The pieces fit together.

What do these aesthetic considerations have to do with Regnum Christi? The question is justified because when we listen to our favorite music or admire our favorite work of art or literature, we usually do not think about harmony either; we just enjoy its implicit power. Yet our initial exercise has revealed that our enjoyment depends on the presence of harmony in the work we contemplate. Harmony is so natural to us that we do not even notice it, like the air we breathe.

“Harmony is essential to the Regnum Christi charism.” But isn’t Regnum Christi about Christ, charity, and evangelization?

Every charism is called to breathe fresh air into the Mystical Body of the Church and the world. The fresh air of Regnum Christi is harmony. We must understand that we cannot live without harmony, or else the rest of our charism might fade away.
