  1. “Brother ____ are you listening” was something Fr B said almost every homely or retreat. My 8 day Spiritual exercise with him is one of the most powerful retreats/encounter’s with God. That and “Br John you have Vocation of marriage” helped shaped the man I am today.
Let us all keep praying those little prayer cards. Fr B pray for us.

  2. While I’ve never had the pleasure to meet Fr. Bailleres, reading about his love of our Blessed Mother, his joyful and optimistic spirit, as well as his fidelity to his priestly vocation and our RC family inspires great gratitude/thanksgiving for the apostle he was! Praying for the peaceful repose of Fr. Bailleres’ soul, and for comfort and peace for his family.

  4. I’m sorry we never had the opportunity to meet. Rest in Peace with the Holy Mother Mary.
    Peace & Blessings.

  9. Fr Joseph Brickner LC

Fr Bailleres will be missed. When the rest of us were novices and he was still relatively young he had the wisdom of a grandfather, and was like that for many. As he once said, “I do not have a doctorate on paper, but I have a doctorate in understanding human nature.” His love for the Blessed Mother was exemplary. Rest in peace!

I met Fr Bailleres in JAX airport once. Recognizing his attire, I spoke to him about being part of RC. He was so warm and kind. We spoke only for a few minutes while waiting for our luggage and as we departed he handed me a rosary from his pocket. I cherish it, and think of him often— just from that one simple meeting. Peace and holiness radiated from him.

Later I found out about the death of Father Antonio Bailleres. My condolences to his sisters and the entire Legion for his departure. We raise a family prayer for his eternal rest. RIP Fr. Antonio.

  12. Fr Richard Tardiff LC

Dear Fr Anthony! I give thanks to our Lord for having had the opportunity to know you and share the mission with you in Canada and the United States during my years of formation in the Legion. Thank you for the example of your priesthood, for your love of Christ and his Church and for your generous dedication to the Legion and Regnum Christi. You had a profound knowledge of the human heart and I learned a lot from you in my spiritual life. Rest in peace now with our Lord!

I have known Father Bailleres since I was a child. Thank you Father Bailleres, for being faithful. I just watched Father’s last homily, given on the day of his passing away from this life to the next, and it was and is, so beautiful!! Mary, our Northern Star. . . how beautiful. Thank you so much Father Bailleres!!

I am reminded of these words from our Holy Father Pope Francis spoken just this May 2, 2024, to priests:  . “. . the Church could not go on without your dedication and your pastoral service. So before all else, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the generous work that you do each day, sowing seeds of the Gospel in every kind of soil (cf. Mk 4:1-25). . . . . . Dear brothers, I am at your side in this process, in which I myself am taking part. I bless all of you from the heart, and in turn, I need to feel your closeness and the support of your prayers. Let us entrust ourselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary Hodegetria, Our Lady of the Way. She shows us the way; she leads us to Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life,”
Rome, Saint John Lateran, 2 May 2024

Thank you Father Bailleres, for being faithful, for your dedication, your generous work, and for teaching me to look to our Northern Star, Mary our Mother, and with her to behold the Beautiful Face of our Beloved Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!

Rest in peace, dear priest of God. You are every day in my family’s prayers!

  15. Rest in peace Padre Antonio! Probably the nicest person I met while I was in the legion. He was stationed in Ireland for several years looking after the 3rd Degree Regnum Christi males. He was equally welcoming after I left the LC and shared my testimony with the legion, the archdiocese of Dublin, the Vatican and the world. May he rest in peace.

  16. Fr Bailleres was the superior who knew me best through my ten years in the Legion, even from before I joined the apostolic school. I still have the printouts and drawings from my many spiritual direction sessions with him over the years.

The last time I talked with him before leaving the Legion, he knew how hard it was for me. “Do you have a medal of the Blessed Mother?” he asked me. “Uh, no, Father, I have this crucifix blessed by the Pope…” “But you DON’T. Have. A. Medal. Of. The. Blessed. Mother.” “Ummm… no?” Then he reached inside his guayabera, and on his chain he had two medals of Mary. He took one off the chain and gave it to me – Our Lady of Guadalupe. That was in 2010, and I have worn her around my neck every day since.

  17. The Ciacciarella Family

It was such a joy to see Fr Bailleres at the recent graduation. He was so happy that evening, smiling and having fun with the brothers! A true pillar in the Legion and he will be deeply missed.

  18. On several occasions, Father Anthony and I would be the last two in the chapel on a Thursday evening. He would always take time to hear my Confession. He always offered me the same penance of one Our Father prayered slowly. On occasion, a Father’s advice in the Sacrement of Reconciliation will resonate as a part of your daily life. One such moment came from Father Anthony when he offered me the wisdom to “always pray for strength, Grace, wisdom, and fortitude of the soul.” Tonight, as I head to sleep I still pray for that.

Rest in the peace of our Lord, old friend.

  19. Kathleen Conkliln

Fr. Bailleres was such a joyful priest. He knew how to radiate that joy in every conversation and each gathering. He often visited Sacred Heart Apostolic School and what impressed me most, was the amount of time he spent praying before the statue of the Blessed Mother. What a grace to have gone to heaven on her feast day. It was an honor to have known him.

  21. Fr. Kevin Baldwin LC

Fr. Bailleres was a great help to me in my perseverance as a Legionary religious. I will never forget his incredible assistance and support, especially in my early years of formation. His great love for Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother, and his wonderful joy and simplicity will be greatly missed. May he rejoice forever in the love of the Risen Lord.

  22. Fr Dean Stasell ,LC

Fr Anthony was a self-made Priest by Christ and the Blessed Mother. One of a kind and a Priest of so many details in the lives of all of us. I never would have become the Legionary Priest that I am today if it was not for the Christ like care and Good Shepherd life that he lived 24/7. The Legion in the US left a footprint in this Country and Fr Anthony formed a lot of the men who did just that. As a Priest he was polarized between his tow greatest loves. Christ and the Blessed Mother. God love you now in heaven Fr Anthony and thanks for all the memories on our journey. Pray for us from your new room in Heaven.

  23. Fr. Steven Reilly LC

Fr. Bailleres loved Jesus and the Blessed Mother with a never-ending passion. He was definitely unique in many ways. I loved how he kept us all spiritual fed through his frequent WhatsApp messages. You could never miss a feast day if you were on his distribution list! He had great compassion and his love for the Legion never dimmed, was always palpable and inspiring. May he rest in peace!

  24. I share the same birthday, as Father Bailleres, June 8th, but in 1952 (close) and noted that our paths had taken us to some of the same places like, Silao, Mexico and Rye, NY. He appears to have been a joy to many and I enjoyed reading about his life and times. What a nice saint we had among us for a time, and although I have never personally met the good Father, his picture radiates a bond and seems to make you want to know the man. Two days after my birthday this year of 2024, I have been diagnosed with a case of painful Shingles virus, I said a prayer for the repose of the soul of this wonderful priest. Then while reflecting on his picture, I felt he was already in the good company of saints in heaven, so I asked if he would intercede with our Blessed Mother on my behalf for a less painful and swift recovery from Shingles. Just thinking of this priest and his life makes me feel better, so I am grateful to have had this time with him, and I believe he will put in a good word for me, even though we are strangers. I believe we never die and I believe this good priest can still, help us and I firmly believe he is in good company now. Thank you Father enjoy eternity! It was a pleasure to finally met you.

  25. Gonzalo Miranda, L.C.

Siempre calmado y sonriente.
    Gracias, P. Anthony!

  26. Fr Christopher Brackett, LC

A very human and profoundly spiritual harmony of both a Father’s sacrificial love and a Mother’s caring presence. Perhaps this is the reason for the impact of your absence. I would like to think that I carry at least a small part of you in the priest that I am today. Thank you, Fr Bailleres!

  27. Fr. Seamus Mc Cabe, L.C.

Fr. Bailleres was an example of a priest deeply in love of Our Blessed Lord and through his way of living encouraged one to do the same. R.I.P.

  28. Fr. John Studer, LC

So many great memories of Fr. Bailleres, he had such a great sense of humor. When I was an apostolic in New Hampshire, his visits were greatly looked forward to, with his talks about Rupert. One time in Cheshire he warned us that he was going to give a sermon for the feast of Christ the King and proceeded to make us laugh almost non-stop in his 45 minute homily!
He transmitted the joy of following Christ to us all with his example. I wish I had been able to get to know him better in my more adult years in the legion, but I won´t forget his influence in my time as an apostolic and precandidate in NH and my years as a brother in Cheshire.
    God bless you Fr. Bailleres!

  29. Fr Joseph Burtka

Fr Bailleres is one of those priests who most represented the love of Christ. I cant recall ever seeing him without a smile and a consoling word – his very presence brought encouragement.

A veritable column of the Legion of Christ in the USA for the past 40 years, he will be sorely missed.

God bless you, father, and thank you so much for all you did for us.

  30. P. Antonio Leon Santacruz, LC

It was a great blessing to have known Fr. Bailleres. A holy priest, man of wisdom, great example and good friend. May he rest in peace!

  32. Fr. Peter Hopkins, LC

He remained faithful through all the trials and tribulations of the early years of the Legion’s founding in the US as well as during the years of our scandal and renewal. His special devotion to our Blessed Mother was contagious. He was a friend, spiritual father, and holy priest. Eternal rest grant unto him O, Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

  33. Fr. James Farfaglia

The obituary describes Fr. Anthony perfectly. He was always an extraordinary example of joy and he always encouraged everyone who knew him. I met Fr. Anthony in the summer of 1978 and I got to know him well, He was always a lot of fun to be with and a great inspiration to be with. The early years in Orange contain many amusing stories that are legend. May he rest in peace.

  34. Fr Robert Presutti, LC

May the Lord and his Mother whom you sought so earnestly receive you graciously into their Eternal Rest….

  35. Alfonso Cutanda LC

  36. Father Anthony. It was a blessing to meet you. Thank you for your joy and your fidelity. It’s inspiring for the new generations of legionaries to have a witness like you. I feel that you are now saying “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Please, pray for us.

  38. Fr. Adrian Canal

With deep gratitude for your dedication in our spiritual formation, I cherish many of your pieces of advice, particularly: “God is the Creator, you are the creature.” Be sure of my prayers. Rest in peace!

  40. Jose Ignacio Laguardia Ahued

You will be missed. Every time I visited Oaklawn after 2017 that I met him, I used to look for him to talk. We could spend many time talking. He was great. Rest in peace Fr

  41. Ronald Conklin

    Thy Kingdom Come!

Praying a novena of Masses for Fr Bailleres. He was a man for others. Full of wisdom and tireless self giving to others. Rest in peace!

  42. Fr. Christopher O'Connor, LC

I was so looking forward to having you with us here in Cheshire. You had a special gift of connecting with all the brothers. I’m sure you will continue to keep us all in your prayers – especially the novices. Thank you for your tireless dedication to bring us all closer to Jesus and Mary.

  43. Charlene Alexander

Fr Bailleres’s smile and eyes were a little window to heaven! His heart seemed fixed on that goal! I am grateful for his smile and peace. May he rest in peace and joy and help the rest of us get there too!! United in our family of Regnum Christi! Charlene Alexander CRC

  44. Fr. Walter Schu, LC

Fr. Anthony helped save my priestly vocation during some difficult moments as a young priest. I owe him a debt that cannot be repaid. He once made a deal with Jesus. God could send him any suffering in this life, as long as he brought him directly (“derechito”) to heaven at his passing. Jesus called him to the Father’s house on his 75th birthday, which coincided with the feast of Mary’s Immaculate Heart. It seems like a sign that Jesus took the deal. We will miss you deeply, Father Anthony. Pray for us from heaven!

  45. Sebastian Flemings

Rest in her loving arms, Padre. You are missed and loved. Thank you for sharing the depths of His love with us.
